A Good Base Camp - The Night Sorrento

We decided to make Sorrento our base of operations for the Amalfi Coast.  Technically speaking, Sorrento (as well as Capri) isn't actually part of the Amalfi Coast, but it's close enough and far more convenient. I looked into staying in Positano or Amalfi, or even Capri, and the hotels there are far more expensive anyway. Sorrento allowed for easy access to Capri (ferries ran throughout the day) and to Positano/Amalfi (by bus). We ended up staying at The Night, a sort of bed and breakfast. It is close enough to the heart of Sorrento as well as the train station so that it was convenient, yet far enough away that it was pretty quiet and away from all of the people. And seriously, this place was such a steal!!! Clean, fairly modern, and cheap!!! Good luck finding a better deal!

I really like The Night! The bed was comfortable, the rooms were incredibly clean, the decor was pretty modern (especially for an Italian hotel), and the shower had great pressure! The bathroom was extra cool because when you turned the shower on, it lit up with colored lighting!
When we got to the hotel, I was a little worried because we rang the bell, but no one answered. But a minute later, someone showed up to check us in and all was good. Turns out, that since there are only a few rooms, no one really stays at the front desk. Instead, if you need something, you can use the phone at the front desk to call one of the guys at any time.

It's called a bed and breakfast, but you actually go to a cafe down the street to get a complementary pastry and drink. I quite enjoyed this, especially since it forced us to get moving each day. You could get an espresso and/or fruit juice. I was overjoyed at the fact that I could have pear juice for breakfast everyday (tho I did try peach juice one day - also good). Fruit juice in Europe, especially Italy, is seriously the best thing ever! Usually, the pastries available were brioches filled with either cream, apricot jam, white chocolate, or chocolate. Between the 2 of us, we tried them all. I loved the jam one; the jam tasted so yummy.

Price Range: $80-$90 per night including breakfast (including most taxes and fees); you pay the city tax at check-out (it was about $15 total for both of us for 5 nights)

Location: 15-20 min walk to the train station; 10 min walk to elevator down to the marina/ferries; 5-15 min walk to shops and center of town

Decor & Cleanliness: The hotel is modern for an affordable Italian hotel. The room is super clean; I swear those are the cleanest floors I've ever seen (pretty sure the maid mops them everyday). Bathroom is very modern with a big sink and optional colored lighting.

Comfort: We had a comfy queen bed. There was actually a single bed setup in the room-great for putting our suitcases. Air conditioning worked well!

Service: I had emailed someone about checking in later and I received a response soon after saying that was fine. The guy who we dealt with at The Night didn't speak the best English but checking in was no problem. When we we asked about check-out he brought up Google translate and all was well. We ended up paying our city tax the night before we checked out since the guy was at the front desk. Then all we needed to do was leave the key at the desk to check-out - no need to bother someone in the morning.

In-Room Features: Free wifi (worked really well!), tablet (with wifi) for in-room use, tv, shower gel, shampoo, little balcony, air conditioning
