Large Variety, Good Flavors
Would We Come Back?
Oh my god, yes!! Everything we tasted was amazing!
I've heard lots of people talk about Founding Farmers; it seemed like one of those restaurants that everyone thinks is "cool" to go to with its sustainability and eco-friendly environment. For some reason, I wasn't impressed by the menu, and I had checked it out several times.
But it happened to be close to a doctor's appointment I had in the city, so I made a reservation and decided to check it out with Brad and our friend, Meghan. I went with very low expectations, but I couldn't have had more of a wrong impression. Another glance at the menu made me wonder what the hell I was thinking previously; the menu looked delicious!
Then I had to decide what to order. I went from not liking the menu to having trouble deciding which noms I wanted to order, a serious problem I seem to have. Being that there were 3 of us, we ordered two appetizers. First, we decided on the bacon-wrapped dates, something I LOVE. I didn't know dates could be so tasty, but fill em with blue cheese, wrap em in bacon, and drizzle em with balsamic, and you've got quite the addictive little bite. They were bursting with flavor, soooo good!
We also got the brie, onion jam, and apple flatbread. I really enjoy pairing sweet and savory, especially when the sweet involves apples, so this dish caught my eye. Also, Brad and I had recently fell in love with onion jam; I had bought him a fancy jar that is especially delicious on paninis and crackers with cheese. What was a pleasant surprise with this flatbread was that it was served on ciabatta. It added a nice crisp to each bite, and as I had expected, the flavors and textures worked wonders together. It was also nice that there were 3 large pieces, perfect since there were 3 of us.
Brad ordered the daily meat cut, a ribeye. He said that it was cooked well, a perfect medium. You got to choose the two sides that it came with. For some odd reason, Brad is obsessed with brussel sprouts so that was a no-brainer; the bacon complemented them well. The other side was sweet potatoes, which he thought were a bit too sweet as he prefers his taters on the savory side. Tho, I like them both ways.
So the food definitely changed my opinion of this place, so delicious! Can't wait to go back!
