Would We Come Back?
Oh yes!! This place turned me onto German cuisine and the spaetzle was delicious and unlike any other we encountered.

After we landed only to find it snowing, I was overcome with grief. If I had wanted snow, I would have gone back to Ohio. I was also sleep deprived from the overnight flight and I had not packed appropriate boots for the snow, and I wasn't in a country that I had ever considered eating my way through. I grabbed a pretzel quickly at the train station to fill my belly, but it was cold and only added more to my grief. When we finally got to the town with the castles, we bought our tickets and then went to find some food.
I'm a seafood and pasta fan, so that's probably why Germany never stuck out as being a gastronomic heaven. Thank god that changed after only one meal at Jägerhaus!  First, let's talk spaetzle. It's kinda like smaller, funkier-gnocchi, and every bit as delicious. It often accompanies a meat dish or is served as a sort of mac & cheese. For my first German meal, I got chicken with mushrooms and garlic spaetzle. The spaetzle was unlike any spaetzle I encountered on the rest of the trip, and it was one of my favorites. The flavor was very pronounced and garlicky and it was covered with the right amount of garlicky coating so that the spaetzle was still moist but the texture was still at the forefront. The chicken was cooked perfectly (when this occurs, it makes me regret not ordering chicken out more often) and the mushroom sauce was full of mushroomy goodness.

The dish also came with a salad. And German salads, I learned, are pure heaven. Perfectly coated in yogurty dressings, you never know what each salad will contain. Maybe potato salad, maybe some sauerkraut, maybe some beets, maybe cucumbers and carrots. But it will always be delicious!

Brad got a pork roast with apple and kraut. My favorite part of his meal were the potato dumplings. No one else ever seemed to be a fan, but I thought the texture was funky and unique in a very good way. It was kind of like a gelatin-like gnocchi ball. However, I never found any more that had the awesome texture that these 2 had.

Overall, this meal not only made my day better, but it made me look forward to German food! Germany may not be known for too many foods, but have been won over, and now I'm craving more than any other cuisine.
