Would We Come Back?
Yes, great pasta selections and very affordable!!

We finally arrived in Italy - Napoli to be exact- but then we had to go all the way to Sorrento. Instead of changing trains, I found a bus that goes directly from the airport to the train station in Sorrento. Only problem, there was a lot of traffic and half the ride is in tunnels; we didn't end up getting to the hotel til about 9 at night. Luckily, I had done my research and found a restaurant with great, cheap pastas, La Fenice, which was directly below our hotel. We were able to check-in and then finally get some of the food we had been waiting for!
We started off by ordering wine - necessary after our long day and a way to celebrate our arrival in Italy. So first thing you need to learn about wine in Italy: you rarely order it by the glass. At first this was weird, but by the end of the trip, it felt weird to not order a BOTTLE of wine with dinner. But in Sorrento, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast, you can get wine by the half liter (that's 2/3 of a wine bottle fyi) almost everywhere. Perfect for 2 people at dinner!

We also ordered a seafood salad for an appetizer. Seafood salads were the foods I was looking forward to most in Italy after pastas. The Amalfi Coast and Cinque Terre, both coastal towns, are known for great seafood! The octopus was definitely overcooked and it was overly lemony, but since this was our first meal, I was still in heaven! Little did I know, this would be by far the worst seafood salad we had in all of Italy. However, the mussels, clams, and fish were still really good!

This restaurant had a lengthy, affordable pasta menu, which of course put me more in heaven. I opted for a classic - quattro formaggi penne (4 cheese sauce). It was amazing!! The cheese was loaded on; each bite followed with melty strings of cheese oozing from the plate. The sauce was thick and the perfect consistency!

Brad got a pasta with shrimps and zucchini flowers. Tho the zucchini flowers were barely noticeable, the sauce was deliciously simple. Italian pastas come out to the table, nothing fancy, and then you bite into them and it's pure bliss. Like what do Italians do that we Americans can't ever seem to get right -even at really nice restaurants?? The sauce was creamy yet full of a seafood flavor, a perfect balance of all flavors. It actually tasted like a seafood pasta - not just pasta that happened to have seafood in it. And it was creamy, unlike most seafood sauces, seriously, such a great way to start our trip!
