Would We Come Back?
I don't think so, ended up working out as a last minute choice but not that special.

When we decided to go to Origins we initially had a hard time choosing a restaurant. We wanted to go to tapas bar down the street but it looked too packed and so we settled for this place. We were hesitant because we aren't rookies and we know that when there are pictures on a menu that often means that its a tourist trap with mass produced, reheated food - not what you want.

Alhough there were pictures on menu we thought it might still be good because they had seasonal menus and that signaled to us that it would be fresh and delicious. They had a great variety and were very reasonably priced.

Goat Cheese and Zucchini Flatbread
The asparagus soup was nothing like German Spargelsuppe and also not much like Katherine's awesome version but was good nonetheless. Of the three I liked it the least but anything with spargel is delicious to me. The only odd thing about this soup was that it had a slight hint of a weird spice like nutmeg or allspice or something. It tasted a little like it should be eaten with a Christmas dinner.

The flatbread was a huge portion and had really good flavor. Goat cheese is one of my favorites and it was a good counterpart to the zucchini. My concern though was that the zucchini was very soft, for my taste it had been overcooked and was too mushy.

Stuffed Apple with Minced Beef and Pork
The minced meat had a weird consistency; I think it's hard to stuff something and have both the inside and outside cook correctly. This dish too I think the apple was mushy from being over cooked and the meat was a little dry from being overcooked. However, the sauce helped to make up for the dryness.

The duck had awesome prominent pear flavor, which is rare because pear is a mild flavor. Of the dishes we had the duck was cooked the best! The meat was tender and succulent and fell off the bones and the pear sauce accompanied it beautifully. Overall we were concerned about the pictures on the menu but it turned out decently and the portions worked well for comfortably eating an appetizer plus an entree.
