Our last hike in Cinque Terre was a fairly brief one but we still wanted to hike between all the cities. The via dell'amore ("The Way of Love" an easy flat path from Riomaggiore to Manarola) was closed so we took another route from Manarola to Riomaggiore ascending nearly straight up, at times, above Manarola and then right back down again into Riomaggiore.
When I say straight up at times, that's quite literal. In a few places we had to use our hands to grab onto roots and rocks to help pull ourselves up the slope. We were hot sweaty and tired at the top and the sun did not relent. Luckily the way down was a gentler slope and more shaded. It was a fun hike and really wasn't too bad due to it's brevity (though, it still took a good hour) but be warned, nowhere is it flat! Your reward at the top will be gorgeous views of both Manarola and Riomaggiore!
