Would We Come Back?
Sure, though another German
restaurant would also do.

We finished touring the castles and it was dark and hazy on our walk down the hill to the town. It was Sunday in Germany so we started to get fearful that restaurants would be closed. In fact, the first restaurant we tried had people inside eating but when we went to the door they told us they had closed.

Due to that closure, we went a little ways back up the street we had come from to go to a restaurant we had already passed up, this one was open. It turned out to be a great choice in the end, I had wanted to go to the first restaurant because I was in the mood for some goulash soup and this second restaurant had a goulash entree!

The venison was tender and fell apart as I tried to pick it up with a fork and was only slightly gamy. I would have preferred it to be more gamy, as I like that flavor, but Katherine liked it this way. The spaetzle was a good side as always and yet again I had one of those weird German potato/bread dumplings - I'm not a fan of them, not much flavor and an unsettling gummy consistency.

Katherine had the cheesy spaetzle, which turned out to be one of Katherine's favorite German dishes. I'm not sure if this one specifically was her favorite but it was definitely good. To me cheesy spaetzle is the German version of mac n' cheese except with potato noodles kinda like gnocchi but a different shape. This one came with fried onions on top, it reminded me of the topping on a green bean casserole.

I would go back again. If I did I would only change one thing, the potato cakes were just not up to par. We had them as an appetizer and they tasted good but they were very plain, as you can see in the picture above. They did come with a dipping sauce but I liked them better dipped in my goulash.
